As great as the rise on these shores of Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil et al is, there's something galling about the fact that 'til now we've only imported goth-metal sirens to get excited about. However that's all about to change thanks to Hampshire's Season's End. Mixing beautiful, etherial female vocals, bombast and eerie atmospherics, Season's End easily knock their European counterparts for six!
Their skill in the art of creating massive, classy gothic metal epics is staggering. Tracks like 'Ghost In My Emotion' and 'Innocence' are vastly epic slabs of operatic majesty, elegantly played, yet bursting with power and energy.
'The Failing Light' is an awesomely captivating album. Let's hope that it gets the recognition such brilliance deserves.
